On the Eve of World Teachers' Day, Shahjan, a notorious and perennial back-bencher, cared little for the occasion. His disdain for his school teachers ran deep, stemming from the harsh beatings they had subjected him to over the years. Being an IT and artificial intelligence enthusiast, he yearned for a day when humanoid robots would replace these human educators.
"They wouldn't beat me anymore, and life would be so much better," he muttered to himself. "I'm tired of these human teachers who report my misdeeds to my father."
The other day, with the golden rays of the sun casting warmth into his room, Shahjan made a decision to explore the long-forgotten storage room in search of an IT-related book. Despite being off-limits and overrun by insects, Shahjan's parents had warned him not to enter it. However, with everyone out of the house, he couldn't resist the temptation. He cautiously entered the room and uncovered a dusty, old diary hidden within a storage cupboard, which was draped in cobwebs. After carefully cleaning the diary, he opened it and stumbled upon a letter that read:
Dear Dairy,
I'm feeling quite disheartened. It's the year 2050, and as our world advances into a highly digitzed era, as anticipated by many scientists, robots and machines have become an omnipresent part of our lives. Wherever we go, be it shopping malls, restaurants, police stations, or hotels, we encounter robots.
Unfortunately, the same automation that replaced human labor in workplaces has now taken over our classrooms entirely with humanoid robots. These robots, powered by artificial intelligence, excel at performing complex tasks independently.
Engineers have developed robots capable of navigating classrooms with ease. These robots can ask questions, share information, provide comments on answers, respond to inquiries, and impressively, they have the ability to remember our names, address us by our names, and recognize our faces. They can laugh, sing, dance, and solve intricate problems. Doesn’t it sound interesting?
I strongly emphasize the importance of not replacing our loving, caring, and charming tutors with humanoid robots devoid of feelings and emotions
But unluckily, they lack the ability to connect with students like a human teacher. They can't offer solace during difficult times. Moreover, these robots require constant charging, and an internet connection is mandatory for their functionality, which adds a layer of inconvenience. Let me share a humorous incident that occurred recently: our humanoid math teacher dozed off during an Algebra lecture because it wasn't fully charged. It took several hours to recharge, resulting in a missed lesson. Such incidents are not uncommon.
I remember my grandfather saying that school was like a second home for them, with human teachers. Unlike our current situation, where humanoid robotic teachers have become common. This transition has not only raised concerns about teachers losing their jobs but has also sparked political, cultural, and religious debates.
Therefore, I strongly emphasize the importance of not replacing our loving, caring, and charming tutors with humanoid robots devoid of feelings and emotions, relying on charging to express themselves. While it's true that robots don't require salaries like human teachers, the costs involved in their maintenance and implementation should not be underestimated.
If human teachers, who bring empathy, understanding, and a personal touch to education, are replaced by robots, celebrating Teachers' Day would lose its emotional significance because you can share love and appreciation with a human, not a robot. Human teachers have a unique ability to form emotional connections with students, making the celebration of their role in education all the more meaningful."
After thoroughly reading the letter, Shahjan had a change of heart and decided to celebrate Teachers' Day the following day. His newfound understanding made him appreciate and respect his teachers even more. The letter had revealed to him that while robots might lack feelings, human teachers could provide invaluable guidance and support during challenging times.
